Lens and Cataract

A cataract is the opacification of a natural crystalline lens. In the early stages, visual disturbances can be corrected by spectacles but a permanent solution for cataracts is only by undergoing cataract surgery. The opacified natural lens is taken out and an artificial intraocular lens is placed inside the eye. Many types of surgeries are available, commonly performed surgeries are phacoemulsification and MICS (micro incisions cataract surgery) procedures.

Corena

Is the transparent layer covering the front portion of the eyeball.  A very sensitive part of the eye.  This part of the eye gets transplanted to a corneal opacity patient (eye donation). The cornea along with the lens helps to refract the light rays and makes them fall on the retina. Any problem in this layer of the eye can affect a person’s vision. Keratoconus is a condition where cornea thins out and Bulges outward into a cone shape. Advanced treatment for this condition is corneal collagen cross-linking (C3R) with riboflavin may solve the progression of this condition.

Retina Services

The retina is the innermost layer of the back of the eyeball. It converts light into nerve impulses, which get carried to the brain through the optic nerve. A person with a clear and healthy cornea and lens can have poor vision if his retina is not healthy.

Glaucoma

A condition where the pressure inside the eye increases due to, either excessive production or decreased drainage of Aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork. As the pressure increases, it leads to permanent damage to the optic nerve causing progressively decreased field of vision and permanent blindness in advanced conditions.

Pediatric and Squint

Refractive errors are a common cause of preventable blindness in children, which if not corrected early can lead to Amblyopia ( Lazy eyes). Squint commonly called crossed eyes, is also very common among children and early treatment is a must in these cases to have good vision in the future.  Off late, there has been a drastic rise in children having refractive errors, especially in the urban population. Allergies are also very common among children.

Oculoplasty

Lid injuries are common during road traffic accident ( RTA ) involving the face. If not managed can lead to permanent scarring. An extra growth on the eyelids is commonly seen in elderly patients. Retinoblastoma is a malignancy (cancer) of the eye seen in newborns and infants. Watering and discharge from the eye due to blockage of the outflow of tears through the nasolacrimal duct leading to chronic dacryocystitis is managed by Dacryocystorhimostomy.
